Melissa was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin; home of the Green Bay Packers. 'The Frozen Tundra' as they call it. Melissa was the youngest of six, the baby girl after five boys. Her mother, diagnosed at first with having a tumor in 1973 was later re-diagnosed as 'pregnant.' But there was something that could have never been diagnosed back then by mere men. God's plan that Melissa would turn and walk away from the only life she'd ever known. Melissa was born and raised as a 3rd generation Jehovah's Witness. Not 3rd generation in the traditional sense you would think.
It would be Melissa's own mother who would introduce 'the truth' to her birth father, mother, and siblings. All would become a part of the Jehovah Witness sect.
Melissa's dad tried to conform to the teachings and ways of the sect but never could agree. Melissa's mother is still a very devout and active Jehovah's Witness, going door to door weekly and shunning her daughter as instructed by the organazation and 'scripture.'
Dr. David Jeremiah said, "We've been clued in to the spiritual under-currents that have brought on the storm in each of our lives."*
Melissa at age 30 was now fully clued in to the plan that the enemy had for her life.
She R E S P O N D E D however to a greater plan; God's plan, and she followed whole-heartedly. Dr. Jeremiah also describes spiritual depression in nautical terms, "The height of the wave determines the depth of the trough that follows it."* At the height of the wave, Melissa found herself experiencing God, but would soon hit the depth of the cost in following Him. Losing everything. Losing her family. She continues to run the race.
If you have ever shared a cup of coffee, been in Bible Study, or at an event and heard Melissa share, you would know that she refuses to put on a 'mask.' She will be transparent and relatable with you around every corner. She will not hesitate to shed a tear with you, bearing the heart that only Christ could heal fully and completely.
Melissa enjoys women's retreats and Bible studies. She loves engaging women of all ages, including former Jehovah's Witnesses encouraging them to take a chance and make a choice to change their current position in life and begin to position it for Christ.
She challenges them to keep looking higher and going deeper on their knees in their relationship with God.
Melissa is married to Mike and enjoys raising their 5 beautiful children together. She is truly blessed and challenged every step of the way as parenting will tend to do. Melissa and her husband enjoy doing all the activites that she at one time was not able to do; watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to their children's sporting events, and celebrating precious holidays like Easter, Christmas, and their children's birthdays.
Melissa never in a million years would have thought this was the plan God had for her life. But through obedience and sacrifice she has experienced some of the greatest joys life has to offer.
